River Dane 01 Mar 2003River Dane 01 Mar 2004

We start this month with a look at the river Dane. The two photographs above show the same view of the river, on the same day, one year apart (01 Mar 2003 - 01 Mar 2004)

Meanwhile further upstream the process of erosion continues.

The image on the left is taken from our november 2003 report.

It shows webby's son James standing (very still) at least 3ft to 4ft (1metre +) back from the edge of the bank in order to give some scale to the photograph.

In the right hand photograph you can see approximately where his position would now be.

In case it is not obvious to our younger visitors we have superimposed his image onto the photograph.

The combination of the river and its unstable banks make it very dangerous (even for adults). So if you have similar banks near to where you live, don't play or walk to close to them, even if you can swim and there is an adult with you.

Some one a little more at home on the water is this female Mallard.

As it turned out she was not on her own and as the next photo shows she was soon off up stream in the company of Mr Mallard. (spring is in the air :-)

Spring does not only bring out the mallards.

Basking in the spring sun was this strange creature?

This is a dedtreosaur, a vary rare creature thought to be amongst the last of the dinosaurs!!!

Experts from all over the world have expressed great interest in this magnificent beast.

A relatively sedentary animal and not normally aggressive, there have been fatal encounters documented so don't approach to closely.

Dedtreosaurs are normally only seen at night, usually following a good evening out with the lads!
