We have 3 types of roller each for different
jobs.
The Cambridge roller.
This
is made of iron rings and when pulled over soil prepared to a fine consistency
it will leave small ridges these are ideal for sowing such things as
grass or forage rape seeds with the fertilizer sower which when harrowed
with the chain harrows are covered over with the right depth of soil.
The Light roller.
When
seeds have been sowed as described above they are then given a final
roll with the light roller to firm and level the field. This roller
is also used after the contractors seed drill.
The Heavy Roller.
This
can be filled with water to give a total weight of around 3 ½
tonnes.
It is generally used in the Spring to flatten any marks left from muckspreading
and to push any stones into the floor and away from causing damage to
silaging machinery.
