As you may already know the pond is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme which is a national countryside conservation scheme.

Under that scheme the pond, which had become little more than a damp depression in the ground due to natural sedimentation processes, was cleaned up and restored.

It has now been several years since it was restored, and the ecosystem of the pond has returned to a balanced natural state.

We recently decided to hold a "Pond Dip" with our children Simon and Sarah, and some friends Hannah Rebecca, Nathan and James Woodward.

We contacted Simon Wood our local countryside ranger, and he kindly agreed to act as expedition leader.

The "Dip" finally began a day late due to heavy rain the previous afternoon
