THE NATURE REPORT
JUNE 2002
Home page

The damp weather has meant a great growth for all plants and this includes wild flowers and weeds.

ThistleSome of these sow thistles pictured before we cut them down were as tall as Simon (Simon is currently 5'6").

PoppiesAlso pictured here are wild poppies these have grown where we had the rubble pile levelled to make the trailer park. For a close up roll your mouse over the picture.

ShrewThis little animal here is a young Shrew which we caught in the porch and had put back outside.

It wasn't too quick to run away as it seemed very hungry so it must have been in the house a while.

BirdsOur House Sparrow population seem to be on the increase and several nests of fledglings emerged from out of the eves last week seen here on the wire.

SparrowAlso shown this cock sparrow perched in the gutter.

And now a little mystery for you 'X'-File types....

X-FileThe original photo that the shows the birds sitting on the wires was originally a much bigger version of the image on the left (click here to view it - it is a large file approx 250K so it may take a moment or two to load depending on you connection)

The flash movie on the right zooms in to the object of interest.

Is it a bird? is it a plane? is it a aaagh

More next month PHIL
