THE NATURE REPORT

Last month we featured a wren's nest (left) by the farmhouse, but this was raided by a magpie and so the eggs were taken.

Roll the mouse over the picture to see how it left the nest.

Magpies have chicks to feed too,
they are clever and successful birds and often take small birds nest eggs and chicks for food.

Birds are not the only things with eggs hatching as these spiders show these are about twice the size of a pinhead. Use your mouse for a closer look

The mallard duck on the pond has 7 ducklings but at the moment they are very "camera shy"

Pictured here is a hole in the apple tree in which some Blue Tits have a nest. I hope to catch the fledglings on camera next month.

This group of gentlemen are judges from the "Cheshire County Farms Competition" and we have entered the farm conservation section and I would like to thank them for giving up their time on such a wet day.

They looked at such things as the hedge plantings ,the Middle banks (here are the cows pictured on the middle banks grazing them bare to allow the wild flowers to seed) and the pond.

Finally remember last month when Webby said it was unforgivable to miss the Barn Owl photo opportunity. Guess who missed a Grass Snake picture down by the river Dane?? (Webbies note: What do you mean "missed it"? I almost sat on it...:-)

See you next month (or at the show) PHIL.
