I have received an email this month from the "Cheshire Barn Owl Conservation Group" this organization is dedicated to the preservation of Barn Owls in Cheshire and secretary Ian is going to visit us to look for suitable sites for nest boxes I do hope he finds some.

WoodpidgeonThis picture shows one of a large flock of woodpigeons on a grass field at this time of year these very adaptable birds will eat clover from the grassland or pick over after the muckspreader for any un-digested grains.

In the summer they tend to eat corn (ripe and un-ripe) autum sees them take blackberries and elderberries and early winter acorns. As I said adaptable. Organic farming is seeing an increase in clover growing as clover provides a "natural nitrogen " source for grass so I think we will see a pigeon increase also.

At our NFU branch meeting this month we were given a talk by eco-net a county organization dedicated to helping advise farmers encourage wildlife on their farms.

As they are a county organization they are also visiting Greenheyes.com to see how we have used our stewardship to enhance the environment.

This made me think and realize that over our 6 years in the stewardship scheme we have added around 550m of hedges to Greenheyes a fact we are very proud of.

See you next month PHIL.
