THE
COUNTRYSIDE STEWARDSHIP
SCHEME
Home page

This is a national countryside conservation scheme which offers financial assistance to landowners and farmers who are prepared to help in actively conserving the countryside, its wildlife and historic features and, in appropriate cases, to offer the public the opportunity to see and appreciate what is happening to the land.

At Greenheyes the scheme covers the Middle and Heifer Banks, the River Dane and a Pond situated within Key Field.

The Greenheyes site is listed as a Site of Biological Interest (SBI), and has a wide variety of both flora and fauna.

Hedge plantingThe CSS can also be educational. The picture on the left is of Thomas Strech from Middlewich County High School who is presently on a works experience placement with us.

Thomas says he didn't realise that hedges started from such small beginnings as he helped me plant the latest 108m length of hedge.
